Database Administrator

The Database Administrator I shall be responsible for maintaining current database systems, troubleshooting issues, designing new databases, ensuring database availability, ensuring data integrity, implementing database chnges, managing security, and providing on-call support.


  1. Implement database changes:
  2. Uses ERwin to design databases and generate change scripts
  3. Creates implementation packages for all database changes
  4. Uses SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and automated processes to implement database changes
  5. Manages backups
  6. Refreshes non-production environments periodically
  7. Manages database maintenance, including integrity checks, re-indexing, defragging, etc.
  8. Reviews error logs and troubleshoot issues
  9. Implements changes to and support data archiving
  10. Uses ServiceNow to document and track access requests
  11. Uses SSMS to review and grant database access
  12. Monitors databases using a combination of native and third party tools
  13. Gathers performance data and analyze
  14. Optimizes performance based on analysis
  15. Installs and configures instances:
  16. Installs new SQL Server instances
  17. Configures SQL Server instances for optimal performance
  18. Upgrades and patches SQL Server instances as necessary
  19. Manage databases
  20. Manage database security:
  21. Monitor and optimize databases:
  22. Special projects as requested
  23. Performs other duties as assigned



  1. Bachelor’s degree in IT preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  2. Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  3. Ability to write and troubleshoot queries in T-SQL.
  4. Ability to describe Microsoft SQL Server security model
  5. Familiarity with troubleshooting and configuration of Microsoft Windows Server
  6. Experience with CMD shell or PowerShell preferred
  7. Proficient computer skills
  8. Demonstrate strong organization skills and detail oriented.
  9. Ability to self-motivate and meet deadlines.
  10. Intense desire to learn
  11. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, changing environment
  12. Familiarity with transactional replication.
  13. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  14. Extended working hours may be required as dictated by management and business needs.
  15. Travel to multiple facilities may be required.
  16. May be required to lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds.
  17. May be required to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time.
  18. May require repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard.
  19. Corporate / satellite office role.
